Absent any extension, on 23 September 2022 the arbitration scheme for commercial landlords and tenants affected by “ring-fenced” debt will expire. When this happens, landlords’ usual remedies for recovery of rent arrears will revive. On its expiry, the arbitration scheme will have been available for six months – but has been used much less than anticipated.
