Konexo has added senior in-house legal, compliance, regulatory and investigations experience to its interim support offering for in-house teams and the c-suite with the arrival of Julian Gooding, former APAC GC and Group Deputy Chief Compliance Officer at Credit Suisse.
Julian brings almost two decades of experience leading multi-national regulatory and change projects, litigation enforcement and remediation action, and conduct, governance, culture and risk programmes. His work in-house spanned the globe, with a particular focus on the APAC region, for firms in financial services including wealth management, investment banking, asset management and insurance.
This latest addition adds to the legal operations, technological implementation and distress management experience already available to clients through Konexo’s newest offering. The alternative legal services provider has built a service giving clients access to the skills of a number of former senior general counsel and heads of legal operations who have held recent and significant roles at large listed and private corporates.
This newest service has a focus on supporting in-house teams and the c-suite in four key areas:
- Companies looking for an interim GC or CCO, whether to plug a gap or as their first senior in-house lawyer or compliance leader
- Helping with a strategic issue, such as a major enhancement or change project, investigation, corporate financing or M&A activity – where the experience of someone who has ‘been there and done it’ is vital
- Coaching and skills development for in-house lawyers and compliance officers, new heads of legal, or new GCs and CCOs, with the support of an advice line service
- Re-designing the in-house legal and compliance team and support for legal and compliance operations functions including legal and compliance team design, systems, processes, controls and use of technology
By placing experienced, former GCs, CCOs and heads of legal and compliance operations within in-house legal and compliance teams, Konexo will help clients unlock more value from their in-house teams in the delivery of legal, regulatory and compliance services.
The GCs, CCOs and heads of legal operations will work to each client’s bespoke brief, with activity ranging from addressing any knowledge and skills gaps within in-house teams for start-ups or SME-sized businesses, managing business as usual activity during busy periods or workload fluctuations, through to advising on and implementing complex regulatory, change and transformation projects in support of client’s strategic boardroom goals or crisis management needs.
The skills and experience of these individuals build on a number of service offerings from Konexo, which already provides a range of legal and regulatory consulting, interim resourcing and managed services.
David Boyd, Partner, Konexo commented:
“Julian adds further experience to our growing GC and CCO offering. His experience of advising at Board and C Suite level, and expertise in delivering major projects vital to the successful running of firms will be welcome to the clients we serve.
“Clients tell us they need senior expertise and specialist legal and regulatory advice, and often require a resource that will embed and work alongside their in-house teams. Our services have evolved to meet these demands and we can now provide clients with access to experienced, senior former GC’s, CCOs and heads of legal and compliance operations. All have extensive listed and private company experience in many commercial sectors, across both contentious and non-contentious activity. I am looking forward to working with Julian and delivering to clients the benefit of his skills and expertise which complement the talent already available.”
Julian Gooding, newest addition to the Konexo GC services, says:
“This initiative from Konexo provides the kind of support that can be hugely beneficial to in house teams when faced with significant challenges. As I know from my own experience, having access to senior practitioners with battle-hardened expertise who can act as sounding boards or get their hands dirty if required can be critical to successful outcomes. The vast experience available across the four GCs and CCOs is unparalleled. I am very much looking forward to working with the other GCs on the panel and alongside the talent in the law firm and Konexo.”
Konexo’s recent projects and client activity have focused on providing in-house legal, regulatory, compliance and technology consulting advice, support for large regulatory change projects such as IBOR, large scale remediation exercises with an emphasis on financial crime, governance and conduct, managed services to support in house operating models, in particular for loans and commercial contracts, and placement of interim resources at all levels and across numerous skillsets to cover short term or longer term requirements.
