ACCRALAW Partner John Paul M. Gaba was featured in Asia Business Law Journal (“ABLJ”) for writing the Philippine chapter of “A Regulatory Update on Data Privacy”, an overview of recent legal developments in data protection in India, Taiwan, and the Philippines.
In the article, Mr. Gaba provided an in-depth discussion of Republic Act No. 10173, or the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (“DPA”). He discussed, among others, the DPA’s scope and key provisions, the distinction between personal and sensitive personal information, the rights of data subjects, compliance obligations imposed on data controllers and processors, and applicable penalties for DPA violations.
Mr. Gaba leads the Firm’s Data Privacy and Security Group. He assists foreign and local clients in complying with the requirements of the DPA and other related rules of the National Privacy Commission. He regularly writes articles and conducts lectures on cybercrime, data privacy, trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property issues.
