NetDocuments has launched six new AI apps in ndMAX Studio, including three that together form a connected AI workflow for patent prosecution. These additions expand the ndMAX Studio to 33 production-ready legal AI apps – the largest library of practice-specific AI apps available natively on a DMS.
Unlike standalone AI tools that sit outside the systems where legal work actually happens, ndMAX Studio apps run where firms already store their matters, documents and client data. The three new IP apps illustrate the direction: rather than point solutions, they are designed to work as a system, linking pre-filing review, claim strategy and prosecution deadline management into a single, AI-driven workflow.
Three new IP apps support the full pre-filing and prosecution lifecycle – an area where missed deadlines, overlooked disclosure gaps and narrow claim scope carry direct commercial consequences for clients. Together they give IP teams an AI-assisted safety net across the highest-risk steps of patent work:
- The Patent Pre-Filing Readiness Review App analyzes draft claims and specifications to identify potential risks before filing, including disclosure gaps, claim-specification misalignment and drafting inconsistencies. The app produces a structured, memorandum-style assessment, enabling attorneys to identify issues early and strengthen application quality prior to submission.
- The Patent Claim Scope Review App evaluates independent claims against the specification to identify scope gaps, unclaimed embodiments and potential continuation opportunities. By applying a configurable review framework, the app supports more consistent drafting and helps legal teams refine claim strategy before and during prosecution.
- The USPTO Patent Prosecution Deadlines App extracts metadata from patent filings and USPTO correspondence to automatically calculate and track key deadlines, including Office Action response windows, priority-based deadlines and issue fee obligations, with adjustments for weekends and federal holidays. Designed to reduce risk in one of the most deadline-sensitive areas of law, the app helps IP teams manage critical timelines more accurately and consistently.
The remaining three apps extend ndMAX Studio further into litigation and dispute workflows, where legal teams work through large volumes of unstructured material under tight deadlines:
- The Transcript Intelligence App extracts key details, generates structured summaries and identifies obligations from deposition, hearing and trial transcripts. Designed to work across all litigation types, it helps legal teams quickly interpret large volumes of transcript data and focus on critical insights.
- The Insurance Defense App analyzes insurance defense case documents to generate and update privileged case evaluation and status reports, covering liability, damages and risk exposure. This enables legal teams to deliver consistent, structured reporting to insurers while reducing manual effort.
- The Arbitrator Analysis Appextracts case and arbitrator data from arbitration documents and stores it in a structured format, enabling legal teams to build a historical view of arbitrator behavior and generate AI-powered summaries across cases. The app supports more informed preparation by surfacing patterns and prior interactions with arbitrators.
ndMAX Studio is increasingly designed to work as a system rather than a catalog of standalone tools. Apps share the same underlying platform, the same data layer and the same security model, so outputs from one app – a deadline extracted from a USPTO filing, a risk flagged in a pre-filing review – can feed directly into the next step of the workflow. For legal teams, this turns AI from a set of isolated productivity boosts into a connected layer of intelligence running across the matter.
All six apps are available immediately. Firms can deploy them as-is, or use ndMAX App Builder to extend and adapt them to specific practice areas, jurisdictions or firm-specific workflows – meaning the 33-app library is a starting point, not a ceiling. Between out-of-the-box apps and firm-built extensions, ndMAX Studio is becoming the place where legal AI is deployed, governed and scaled across the practice.
