From July 8 to 10, 2026, DivinaLaw Partner Atty. Mary Jude C. Marvel joined distinguished legal scholars and researchers from around the world at the UNIDROIT Centenary Academic Conference in Rome, Italy. She was the only Filipino scholar at the event, participating alongside academics from leading institutions such as the University of Cambridge, the European University Institute (EUI), and the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po).
The three-day gathering served as the flagship event of UNIDROIT’s centenary celebrations and examined the evolution and future of transnational law, its influence on domestic and international legislation, and its relationship with legal education and research.
The invitation-only conference was divided into two parts. The first highlighted notable initiatives undertaken through UNIDROIT’s partnerships as models of cooperation, while the second featured selected research papers presented by law professors from participating institutions. Among them was Atty. Marvel, who also serves as Dean of the De La Salle University – Dasmariñas College of Law, with her paper, Beyond the Shadow of the Courts: Adopting the UNIDROIT Legislative Guide on Bank Liquidation in the Philippines.
An intergovernmental organization headquartered in Rome, UNIDROIT was established as the world’s first international legal think tank. It has long brought together prominent jurists and legal scholars to propose and discuss innovative legal solutions aimed at facilitating commercial exchange and investment at both the domestic and international levels.
