The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has announced it will reduce two of its official fees for trademarks as follows, effective April 1, 2016:
Registration fee: 37,600 yen → 28,200 yen / class
Renewal fee: 48,500 yen → 38,800 yen / class
Patent application fees will also be reduced at the same time.
Japan’s official fees are expensive compared to those of other countries. The JPO hopes the cuts will encourage more applications. We shall have to wait and see, but it certainly is welcome news.
