Paul was previously a Partner with Hogan Lovells, where he was Joint Head of the firm's International Arbitration Practice in Southeast Asia. He has almost 20 years of experience advising and representing parties as Counsel and Solicitor in major disputes involving arbitration, adjudication, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Court proceedings. He is also a Chartered Arbitrator and he sits regularly as arbitrator on ad-hoc and institutional cases.
"As the business challenges facing our clients are becoming ever more complex and, increasingly, across multiple jurisdictions, Paul's deep local market and sector experience helps to bolster our existing capabilities and strengthen our client offering,” said Milton Cheng, Managing Partner of Baker McKenzie Hong Kong and Chair of a committee that oversees Baker McKenzie's offices in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea and Vietnam.
Leng Sun Chan SC, Baker McKenzie's Global Head of Arbitration, said: "Paul has constantly been recognised by the legal directories. His deep sector knowledge and experience in the energy, infrastructure, construction and offshore and marine sectors dovetail well with our existing capabilities. I look forward to his contribution to our efforts to expand the Dispute Resolution practice in the region. His addition reinforces our team’s capability to provide seamless specialist disputes and international arbitration services to clients across the region."
"We are delighted to welcome Paul to our team as we continue to strengthen our disputes platform," added Cynthia Tang, head of Baker McKenzie's Dispute Resolution Practice Group in Greater China. "His experience in Greater China is impressive and his hire means we now have 11 partners in Greater China focussed on assisting clients with the entire spectrum of disputes work."
Paul added: " Hong Kong and Singapore are key regional hubs for cross-border commercial and project-related disputes. As the number and value of such disputes continue to increase, Baker McKenzie's combination of sector expertise and strong network of offices in the region and globally, provides the ideal platform for handling such disputes. I am hugely excited to take on this new mandate and play a role in the Firm's continued success.”
