Singapore's mobile network operators (MNOs) will begin shutting down '2G' services to customers from 1 April.
M1, Singtel and StarHub will complete the shutdown of 2G networks in stages. The work is scheduled to be completed by 18 April.
The move will allow spectrum currently used to support 2G services to be used instead for the provision of higher speed '3G', '4G' or more advanced mobile services, according to a statement issued by the MNOs and the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore.
Customers currently using devices that only provide for 2G services should move to alternative devices that accommodate '3G' or '4G' connectivity if they wish to continue accessing mobile internet services in Singapore, the statement said.
2G services were first introduced in Singapore in 1994. The retirement of the network was announced in 2015.
