Deacons, Hong Kong’s own world class law firm, has strengthened its Competition team, Corporate Commercial group, with the hiring of Dr. Sharon Pang as Principal Economist – Competition.
Dr. Pang has more than 20 years of experience in the field of antitrust. She received her PhD and MA in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and a BA in economics from Pacific Lutheran University.
In Dr. Pang’s earlier stage of career, she served as an in-house Economist in the antitrust department of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Dr. Pang further taught microeconomics, macroeconomics and international trade in the MBA program at Cornell University. Prior to joining Deacons, she was a Principal in the antitrust practice of Charles River Associates. Dr. Pang has advised attorney and corporation clients in antitrust investigations and litigation matters alleging monopolisation; anti-competitive vertical restraints (e.g., exclusivity agreements, tying, bundling, resale price maintenance, refusal to deal); price discrimination; and collusive conduct (e.g., price fixing, bid rigging).
She has prepared economic expert reports, submitted written declarations to U.S. federal courts, and presented economic findings to the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission staff in connection with antitrust investigations and merger review.
Dr. Pang has spoken extensively on the economic aspects of antitrust laws in competition conferences in Asia, and at law firms, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Hong Kong Competition Commission, and the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Pang regularly conducts economic training seminars to international law firms in Hong Kong and advises their clients on various competition-related matters.
The core of Antitrust & Competition involves the application of both economic doctrines and legal principles. Economists thus play an integral part in competition matters and regularly advise clients in antitrust litigation and investigations, as well as merger reviews.
