Hong Kong's Law Reform Commission is set to consult on whether to permit the use of outcome-based fee arrangements in international arbitration cases.
So-called "success fees", in which the fees charged by lawyers are contingent on the outcome of the litigation, are not currently permitted in Hong Kong.
The consolation will consider whether reform is needed and if so, make recommendations for reform as appropriate.
The introduction of success fees would bring Hong Kong into line with rival seats such as London and New York, where they are permitted.
