Morrison & Foerster partner and global chair of the Private Equity Group Marcia Ellis and partner Vivian Yiu are quoted in an article, “Surprise Move Could Bring SPACs to Hong Kong: Bloomberg Deal,” published by Bloomberg on December 28, 2021.
The article suggested the SPAC rules in Hong Kong will still be tougher than those in many other jurisdictions. Vivian and Marcia stated that the exchange “has struck the right balance in proposing a high quality regime that will offer a meaningful alternative listing method to traditional IPOs.” They also believed that those concessions will better align
the interest and incentives of SPAC promoters with those of their shareholders. If that works, Hong Kong could see a lively SPAC market.
