Cannabis is one of the most utilized plants in human history and a resource for numerous industries, including food, textiles, construction, and even medicine. But the scientific community has just recently started looking into cannabidiol (CBD), the key active element, for its numerous health advantages.
What is CBD?
Some varieties of the Sativa species contain quite high percentages of CBD. Therefore, they are selected to produce products with beneficial effects for the medical field.
Medical marijuana is now allowed in more than two-thirds of the US. Eighteen countries of them have approved the recreational use of cannabis. People are now enjoying the benefits of marijuana, thanks to its legalization.
The cannabis market is also moving on the right path, thanks to the pandemic. Pharmacy stores, which also sold cannabis, were regarded as crucial companies. Many were tempted to try cannabis for the first time in their lives due to the stressful situations we were experiencing during lockdown.
As it has shown to be very beneficial in reducing many problems, there are now a lot of new cannabis users around the world. But what is important to note is that the cannabis laws are changing from day to day, and you need to stay updated.
1. Cannabis Regulation Act
On March 31, 2021, the Marihuana Regulation & Taxation Act (MRTA) was ratified, making adult-use cannabis (commonly referred to as marijuana or recreational marijuana) legal in New York.
The law established a new Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) under the control of a Cannabis Control Board to thoroughly regulate cannabis for adult use, medical use, and hemp production.
2. Medical Cannabis Laws
In many countries, the only legal cannabis is the one sold through the official pharmacy channel. Marijuana-based preparations for therapeutic use are produced by companies that have licenses to do so. The CBD products officially on the market are oils, creams, tinctures, edibles, gummies, beverages, etc.
Why is the use of cannabis of other origins not allowed in many countries?
Medical cannabis is a full-fledged herbal medicine because the drug is subjected to a strict production and quality control regime. The preparations in use today are grown in greenhouses without any pesticides. All the marijuana used comes from crossing and selecting plants to obtain a standard product whose exact composition is already known.
3. Access to retail products for adult use
Many things seem to be changing in the cannabis industry as it is growing rapidly. Thanks to dispensaries and online shops like Grasscity, we have access to many new CBD products for adult use, and the range seems to be increasing every year. The specter of CBD products available on the market is expected to increase and change in the next five years.
4. Employers will not be allowed to test job applicants for cannabis
A drug test is frequently required by companies, especially for candidates who advance to the final stages of the hiring process. An important exception to this rule is the transportation sector and other safety-sensitive, regulated industries.
Certain companies, such as those that work with NASA or the Department of Defense, the transportation sector, the aviation industry, or mass transit, may need to test at least some of their staff.
So, why do employers test employees if it’s not typically required?
Here are some of the reasons:
- To be eligible for reductions on workers’ compensation.
- Every business has the right to ensure that the employees are drug-free, and if they get the right documents, they will be able to conduct tests on their employees and interviewees.
- To stay out of legal trouble.
- A company could face legal repercussions if an employee harms a coworker.
It is expected that employers will no longer be allowed to test interviewees and employees for cannabis, which is a great thing as it is legalized in many countries for recreational purposes. So, if you are facing a similar problem in the near future, make sure to talk to your lawyer about it.
