Appleby Isle of Man have introduced a number of green initiatives to encourage employees and the business as a whole to be more environmentally conscious in the office as well as within our local community.
Earlier last year, Appleby Isle of Man formed a CSR committee with the key focus of ‘the Environment’ for 2022 and 2023. Since forming, the committee have championed initiatives within the office such as introducing recycling bins on each floor and removing personal desk bins, encouraging employees to actively recycle milk cartons, cans, cardboard, paper and plastics. To avoid using single use plastics, we gave each employee a reusable tote bag to use when visiting shops during lunch breaks and also gave each employee a reusable water bottle and coffee cup.
We also looked at our supply chain e.g. suppliers of ink cartridges and paper and asked questions regarding their green credentials to see if this could be more sustainable. We offer flexible working which gives employees the option of working from home, reducing the amount of travel emissions.
As well making a difference within the office, we wanted to make a positive impact in the local community too. Appleby Isle of Man are proud to be corporate members of the Manx Wildlife Trust as well as the Isle of Man Woodland Trust, directly funding the conservation of Manx wildlife and the planting of native trees on the Island for current and future generations.
The Appleby team volunteered and took part in two sessions of tree planting in partnership with the Isle of Man Woodland Trust recently, where over 300 trees were planted, the trees were native species helping to support local biodiversity.
“Appleby are proud to have introduced and continue to champion green initiatives within the workplace, doing what we can to support the local environment. We have lots more in the pipeline and we hope to become a UNESCO Biosphere partner in due course, as well as being involved with more local charities in the coming year.” Tom Brook, Partner at Appleby Isle of Man.
