The New York City Bar Association has elected Crowell & Moring partner Juan A. Arteaga as vice president. In addition to serving as vice president, Arteaga is a member of the Association’s Judiciary Committee and previously was the chair of the Minorities in the Courts Committee. He also served on the Association’s Nomination Committee.
Arteaga is a member of Crowell & Moring’s Antitrust and Competition Group, where he has successfully guided numerous Fortune 500 corporations, technology companies, global financial institutions, healthcare providers and insurers, higher education institutions and individuals through a broad range of civil (both merger and conduct) and criminal antitrust investigations conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general.
Prior to joining Crowell, Arteaga served as the DOJ Antitrust Division’s deputy assistant attorney general for civil enforcement. While at DOJ, he oversaw numerous merger and conduct investigations involving a broad range of industries and played a leading role in various successful enforcement actions, including seven merger challenges that resulted in the transaction being blocked after trial or abandoned prior to trial.
Arteaga also serves on the executive committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Antitrust Section, where he co-chairs the Cartels and Criminal Practice Committee. In addition, Arteaga is the board chair of Northern Manhattan Improvement Corp., a non-profit organization that provides legal, educational, and social services to residents in the Harlem, Washington Heights, and South Bronx communities. Arteaga also serves on the board of Legal Outreach, a non-profit diversity pipeline program that provides educational resources to youth in underserved New York City communities.
