GC Spotlight: Natalie Da Gama Rose, Global General Counsel, Kidsloop Limited.

Meet the exceptional Natalie Da Gama Rose – the Global General Counsel at Kidsloop Limited, a global EdTech company. In our GC Spotlight, she tells us about her role and what trends she expects to see in the legal industry in the next few years. Let’s get into it! 

1. Hi Natalie! Tell us a little about your role at work and what excites you outside of work.

I am Global General Counsel of Kidsloop Limited, a global education technology company with teams in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the United States, Korea, Pakistan, India, Vietnam and Indonesia. Our business is focused on improving the learning outcomes for children between the ages of 3 and 5 through live and online interaction on our learning platform. My work principally involves licensing, intellectual property protection and compliance with a focus on data protection.

Outside of work, I enjoy the company of my daughter, wonderful friends and our three poodles on hiking and water sports’ adventures in the many beautiful places in Hong Kong. 

2. What have been your biggest challenges during the pandemic?

I joined the company last year and I have found the biggest challenge was not having met members of my own team, our operational teams and partners in person. Whilst, tools such as zoom and google meet are a great benefit on some levels they are not a complete substitue for inter-personal relationships built in person in my experience. 

3. What are your key priorities for the year?

The focus for this year is raising investment, growing our partnerships and meeting best practice requirements in compliance as we develop a global business.

4. What do you think about the use of LegalTech, data analytics and process optimisation to improve your legal department’s value (e.g. data relating to contracts, risk, tracking workflows, performance metrics, costs)?

As a rapidly developing global business, Legal Tech, data analytics and process optimisation are critical to improving our services whilst at the same time managing our cost base. 

5. What trends do you expect to see in the legal services industry in the next 5 years?

I would expect to see increasing use of document automation and other features of legal tech with an increasing demand for agile strategic thinkers in the legal services industry who are able to respond to a rapidly changing technology environment.

6. Where do you see NewLaw/ALSP fitting in the matrix of your legal department?

I have in the past used the service providers on a project basis and I can only forsee this becoming a service I will continue to use to respond to rapidly changing technology and economic factors which require specialist services on demand without the burden of large fixed overhead.
