Shaneen Parikh is a Partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas’, Mumbai office and joined the Firm in 1995.
Shaneen’s focus is on dispute resolution, including arbitration (domestic and international), and corporate and commercial litigation. She has appeared in arbitrations and various regulatory forums and courts (including High Courts, and the Supreme Court), across the country.
Her practice covers a wide range of issues, including disputes relating to commercial contracts, joint venture, technical collaboration and shareholder agreements, writ jurisdiction, intellectual property, infrastructure, power and construction projects, commercial financing transactions and documents, torts, labour, etc. Shaneen advises clients both Indian and multi-national in domestic and cross-border disputes, in relation to court litigation as well as arbitration (both domestic and foreign).
Shaneen handled the precedent setting litigations that arose in relation to derivative transactions, acting for various Indian and foreign banks in relation to foreign exchange derivatives in arbitrations and litigations, both domestic, in courts across the country and foreign. She also acted for a multi-national bank in relation to transactions under the Special Court (Trial of Offences Relating to Transactions in Securities), Act, 1992, and other disputes relating to securities / commodities transactions which were among the first of their kind.
Shaneen is actively involved in dispute resolution-related initiatives in, and has spoken at various conferences and seminars pertaining to dispute resolution. She has also co-authored several articles, on arbitration and litigation including most recently, the 4th edition of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Handbook (India Chapter) published by Global Legal Insights, and has assisted a leading chamber of commerce in drafting its rules of arbitration, conciliation and mediation.

- Acted for an American company and its Indian subsidiary in respect of disputes relating to a joint venture and shareholders agreement and power purchase agreement against a government-owned power corporation.
- Acted for a state owned chemical manufacturing company in respect of disputes with its English and Indian joint venture partner companies under a joint venture agreement (for manufacturing float glass) and shareholders agreement.
- Advised an East Asian multinational company in arbitration proceedings commenced by an Indian conglomerate in relation to the disputes that arose out of an alleged breach / wrongful termination of a contract for supply of equipment for a power project.
- Acted for a leading state owned gas-exploration corporation in respect of disputes arising out of an exploration contract entered into with a Portugese company.
- Acted in a series of arbitrations for an Indian chemical company against a state owned corporation in respect of various contracts for manufacture and supply of chemicals used in oil extraction.
- Acted for a French construction company in claim for damages against a government owned corporation in respect of a design and construction contract for a sewage / effluent pipeline.
- Acted for a cement manufacturing company in respect of disputes arising against a State power company in respect of supply of fly ash from its power plant.
- Acted for an Indian infrastructure company in disputes under a concession agreement for building a bridge on BOT basis, against the Government of Kerala.
- Acted for an Indian car manufacturing company against its Italian joint venture partner, in the company law board, in respect of disputes arising under a joint venture and shareholders agreement.
- Acted for an American shipping company in relation to its disputes with a ship-building company in India arising out of the default in completion and delivery of shipping vessels.
- Acted for a private equity arm of a multinational bank in respect of breaches of investment and share purchase agreements by a manufacturing company and its Indian promoter group.
- Acted for an Indian steel conglomerate against the Indian subsidiary of a global engineering company in disputes arising out of a joint venture agreement and power purchase agreement
- Acted for a company incorporated in the Netherlands against an Indian company to enforce a foreign arbitral award (under FOSFA Rules), in India (in respect of supply of oil by the Indian company).
- Acted for a technology company in a writ petition challenging the forced amalgamation of that company with its subsidiary company; the first of its kind in India.
- Acted for the parent company (and its promoters), of an Indian commodity exchange in respect of defaults committed on the exchange and extensive litigation emanating therefrom.
- Acted for a healthcare company in relation to disputes arising in relation to an operation agreement with the trust of a hospital.
