Silke is a partner specialising in energy law. She is Global Head of ESG and leads the firm’s Climate Change practice.

EXPERIENCE
Silke has over 17 years’ experience of working in the energy sector, advising clients in relation to complex energy and climate change issues internationally with a particular focus on renewable energy and the energy transition.
Silke also advises clients on all aspects of European and UK energy law and regulations, including unbundling issues, REMIT, and network codes. She has long standing experience in electricity and gas trading arrangements and has advised interconnectors and other transmission and distribution system operators.
Silke was recently named Individual (London) of the Year for Projects, energy and natural resources by The Legal 500 UK 2020.
Silke has advised:
- an international mining company in relation to their climate change strategy, climate change report, and ongoing climate change related EU and UK Regulatory and policy (and litigation) updates
- BP on their strategic partnership with Equinor for the development of 2GW of US offshore wind for $1.1bn
- a number of companies on climate change related risks and opportunities
- a UK listed oil company on assisting in the preparation and review of the company’s Sustainability Report and the sustainability section in its Annual Report, as well as ongoing climate disclosures.
- Aquind on the development and operation of a 200MW interconnector between the United Kingdom and France
- Aquind on a successful challenge against ACER in front of the EU General Court
- PEARL Infrastructure Capital as majority stakeholder on its joint investment with Wismar Pellets in financing the construction of the Bioenergie Wismar Combined Heat and Power Plant
- a number of investors in relation to investments in German and English offshore wind farms
- a number of UK and European utilities in relation to their energy and emission trading strategy in the UK ETS, EU ETS and other international emission trading systems
- sale and purchase arrangements with Distrigas
BACKGROUND
Silke is admitted to practice in England and Wales, Germany and France and is also a member of the Law Society of Ireland.
She is a Visiting Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London for international energy regulation; an affiliated professor with the University of Haifa, and a visiting professor at the University of Groningen. Silke is the editor of the European Energy Handbook and regularly publishes on aspects of energy and climate change law.
