Linklaters’ and Citi UK’s Choirs hosted a concert to celebrate their 10th anniversaries, with special guests the Sing For Freedom Choir.
The Linklaters Choir is an award-winning, non-auditioned choir for staff and alumni of Linklaters. Established in London in 2013, the choir rehearses one lunchtime a week. It was initially set up to give people an opportunity to escape from their desks, experience access to the mental and physical benefits of singing and form new friendships across the firm. Since then, the Choir has performed regularly in the office and in many concerts and competitions.
The Citi Choir was established in 2013 by Gareth Malone for the BBC television series: The Choir – Sing While You Work. The Choir made it to the final which was broadcast from Ely Cathedral to a TV audience of more than three million. Since then, the Choir has gone from strength to strength, rehearsing weekly and performing regularly for clients, colleagues and the community.
The Sing for Freedom Choir unites displaced people from around the world with others from across London and the UK who join to sing in solidarity with them. The choir was originally founded by survivors from the charity Freedom from Torture and since 2018 has been run by Together Productions, a not-for-profit community interest company. It offers members a joyful community of friendship founded in music, and delights audiences with unique and life-enhancing performances. The Linklaters Choir has collaborated with and generously supported the Sing for Freedom Choir over several years. The choir is entirely funded by grants and donations and provides pastoral support and travel expenses to those who would not be able to take part otherwise.
The programme for the evening included a variety of music, including Eric Whitacre’s Sleep, the popular song Uptown Funk and a joint number with all three choirs, Harbour by Anna Tabbush.
