Ahead of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections on October 30, the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman invited DivinaLaw Senior Partner Atty. Enrique V. Dela Cruz Jr. to discuss the powers and responsibilities of a barangay during the “Pili-PINAS: Talakayang Sektoral Para sa Halalan.”
The sectoral discussion forum was co-organized by the UP National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP NCPAG) Student Council with the Center for Leadership, Citizenship and Democracy and the Center for Local and Regional Governance.
A barangay is the most basic political unit in the Philippine government and Atty. Dela Cruz said it serves as the primary planning and implementing unit of government programs, basic services, projects, and activities.
“We need to have competent government leaders that can promote the general welfare of the public, especially the grassroots level,” said Atty. Dela Cruz. “We need to do it now in the coming barangay and SK elections. We have the choice in our votes and now is the time.”
