Crowell & Moring has named Joel J. Gustafson as its Chief Information Officer to lead the firm’s Information Services team and deliver innovative and effective technology solutions and implement best in class systems and services to help advance the objectives of the firm and its clients.
Gustafson brings more than two decades of experience specializing in IT strategy, service delivery, infrastructure, operations, procurement, end user support and computing, and project management at organizations ranging in size from 2,000 to more than 50,000 employees. He will be based in the firm’s Chicago office.
“Joel brings a wealth of experience, particularly in the legal arena, and will lead efforts to devise innovative technological solutions to solve business issues, maintain a secure platform, and leverage new and emerging technologies to keep pace in an everchanging business environment,” said Chahira Solh, chair of Crowell’s executive committee.
Most recently, Gustafson served as Global Director, CTO at Mayer Brown LLP, where he was responsible for global IT strategic planning, cloud adoption, IT operations, and enhancing security. He also held a number of senior management roles in IT operations at Sidley Austin LLP. In addition to his legal experience, Gustafson has held technology-focused roles in the consulting, technology, and retail industries, including over a decade at Heidrick & Struggles, a company that specializes in global leadership advisory services.
