Peng lawyer Joe ( Alice Peng ) focus on compliance business for 15 years. He graduated from Chongqing Southwest University of Political Science and Law (LLB) and University of Iowa (LLM). Served as a public prosecutor at the People’s Procuratorate of the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province, worked in the Shanghai representative office of a well-known domestic law firm Jun He and an internationally renowned British Simmons law firm, as well as the top three global pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca Served as the senior director of global compliance investigations. After that, he joined Shanghai Fangxu Law Firm as a senior partner.

Q: After graduating from university at the earliest, the ideal from the beginning was to be a lawyer in the future?
Peng Qiao: No. I think everyone’s knowledge of themselves is spiraling, and your knowledge of yourself and the world is a dynamic process of development. When I graduated, I didn’t want to be an expert who would contribute my whole life to the compliance career. When I graduated, you just wanted to be a lawyer on the best platform, but life is like this. It happened that I went to the intermediate level by mistake. The People's Procuratorate has done public prosecution work for five years, but this experience has made a large part of myself. My values are to experience, to toss, not to limit my imagination. The continuous improvement of my comprehensive ability is inseparable from this value of mine. I encourage everyone to follow their own values and keep trying and experiencing. Only through experience can I find my passion and know my strengths and weaknesses more clearly.
Q: What prompted you to change your work environment? What do you think of these experiences?
Peng Qiao: When I was working as a lawyer in the dispute resolution team of Jun He Law Firm, I wanted to contact FCPA very much. Unfortunately, the work project of Jun He Law Firm could not meet my demand at that time. When I found out that I could learn FCPA from a foreign law firm, I was pregnant. The second child jumped to a foreign investment office for six and a half months. However, when I arrived at a foreign firm, I discovered that it was actually better than the domestic platform, but it was also difficult to communicate directly with the US Securities Regulatory Commission or the Bureau of Justice, or deal with specific legal issues related to the FCPA. Instead, it exercised and accumulated under the FCPA. Extensive experience in investigation. Three and a half years later, due to my desire for FCPA knowledge, my fate with AstraZeneca brought me to a foreign company. I finally practiced in the position of senior director of global compliance investigations and allowed me to accumulate practical operations on the application of FCPA law. International experience. And from the simple thinking of lawyers before, I have exercised the corporate thinking that a global executive of a foreign company needs to have, the international cultural thinking of working with people in different markets, and the female leadership. Looking back on my own experience, whether it was the work of the procuratorate at the beginning, domestic-funded firms, foreign-funded firms, or foreign executives, I found that I was always full of passion and enthusiasm for working in the professional field of compliance and dispute resolution. I wanted to use myself Exhaust 20 years of horizontal and vertical accumulation of skills to serve more enterprises, especially private enterprises, to be the trend-makers of the Chinese era. So, I returned to the platform I was familiar with, formed a team, and set off again.
I think every experience has made a part of what you are today. If life is like a jigsaw puzzle, which piece do you think you are missing, you should fill it in. An experience can’t be the only platform that can’t fill everything you want, so keep trying. If a person finds the missing piece of "puzzle" on a comfortable platform, then you must try to make up for it through other platforms. And how many people have the courage to constantly break their comfort zone and cross to another unfamiliar platform to make up for their shortcomings? However, only in this transition from comfort zone to non-comfort zone, and experiencing this painful temper in the transition period, can people reach a higher position. Thinking back to every part of my own experience now, I think it is indispensable and even irreplaceable.
Q: Your time is very precious. How do you balance your family life and work?
Peng Qiao: I think there is no such thing as "balance". People's time and energy are limited in themselves, so you must arrange a priority in different time periods. If you rank work first in the day, you should not feel guilty about other things, because this is your choice and there is nothing to regret. From my personal experience, I feel that as a mother, it is not that I have to accompany my children to do homework every day, but when they have hobbies, I can help them find the best and most professional teachers to help them. They develop their hobbies instead of me coming to do it myself, because in that respect I am not the most professional teacher. In fact, time management and concentration have always been a challenge for me. The most important thing for parents to influence their children should be their values and world outlook, not academic influences, and I think that when parents behave themselves well, their children will naturally be influenced to learn how to be themselves. I now also treat my children as adults to communicate. I think this is a kind of mutual companionship and mutual growth. I encourage children to play as much as they want, use the least time to improve efficiency and finish studying, and spend more time to cultivate their hobbies.
Q: Whether you are a lawyer or a corporate compliance officer, do you have your own stress relief methods or decompression management when faced with work pressure?
Peng Qiao: I'm telling the truth. Except for the pressure of starting my own business now, I really didn't have any pressure in my previous job. I have always enjoyed it, and work is easy for me. But one thing I want to share is that if there is a place in the work area that is not your own comfort zone, when you are facing challenges, I think reading and communication are the best solutions. For example, reading can help you quickly learn from the book. Find a methodology to guide you in solving the problems you are facing. In addition, communicate with friends and understand their way of thinking. You can learn another way of thinking through communication. In general, find the right person and the right book, find the methodology, so as to improve your comprehensive ability.
Q: What are the reasons for you to firmly pursue the path of compliance as a lawyer?
Peng Qiao: Actually, I am really grateful for the recent seminars that I participated in the lecture. The response from everyone is really very positive. It makes me feel that the path of a compliance lawyer is very promising and hopeful, and it also gives me the confidence to continue. Practice my professional dreams. I like this sentence very much. Your circle of friends does not depend on how many people you know, but how many people you can help. The people you can help may be your true circle of abilities. I am very satisfied with using my professional knowledge and practical experience to help others solve problems, and the customer's affirmation is the greatest encouragement to me, and it makes me more determined that compliance is the reason for sustainable development. I believe that the future growth in ACCP will be an unforgettable fighting feeling.
