Global law firm Clyde & Co have announce a number of management changes in the Asia Pacific region.
Hong Kong-based Partners Gloria Jones and Simon McConnell will be joining the firm's Asia Pacific Management Board. Gloria is a Partner in the insurance practice and specialises in contentious insurance work, and dispute resolution, while Simon's practice covers insurance, dispute resolution, regulatory investigations and employment law.
Gloria has been with Clyde & Co since she was a trainee solicitor and was admitted to practise in Hong Kong in 1995 and England and Wales in 1998. Simon joined the firm in 2012 and has extensive management experience and has also practiced in Hong Kong for a number of years.
In addition to joining the Board, Simon will become Managing Partner for the Hong Kong office. Current Managing Partner, Michael Parker, is moving to the firm's Singapore office to take on a leadership role there after six years at the helm of the Hong Kong office. Michael recently celebrated 35 years with the firm and has overseen a period of significant change in Hong Kong. Under his stewardship the Hong Kong office has developed into a genuinely full service firm and entered a period of strong financial growth.
Michael's move is as a result of Brian Nash, the current Singapore office Managing Partner, stepping down from the partnership to become a Consultant. Brian has been at Clyde & Co for 32 years and has in that time held a number of management roles in the UK, the Middle East and more recently in Asia. During the four years Brian has been leading the Singapore office, and sitting on the firm's Asia Pacific Management Board, the firm has seen an increase in headcount in the region of 80 percent, while the Singapore office headcount has increased by 30 percent in the past 12 months alone.
Brian said of Michael's appointment to the role: "I congratulate Michael on all his achievements in our Hong Kong office and I'm sure that the partners and staff in Singapore will benefit from his leadership. I've enjoyed my time working in Singapore very much and feel confident that the firm will continue to thrive under Michael's stewardship."
In addition, Ik Wei Chong has been appointed Managing Director, Asia and will continue to split his time between our Shanghai and Singapore offices. As well as continuing to lead the development of the Mainland China practice, Ik Wei will combine his roles on the APAC and Global Management Boards with helping develop the firm's regional Marine practice.
All changes will take effect from 1 May.
