DLA Piper announced today that Gloria Guolai Liu has joined the firm's Corporate group as a partner in the Hong Kong office. Gloria is a native Mandarin-speaking private equity lawyer who focuses her practice on private equity transactions and strategic investments in Greater China and the United States. She joins from Goodwin Proctor.
Gloria brings with her over 13 years of experience in the private equity arena, with a focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, take-private transactions, private equity, venture capital and growth capital investments, joint ventures and strategic alliances, and a broad range of other corporate transactions.
Sue Yang, who has been appointed as Of Counsel in the Corporate Group, will join Gloria in late September. Sue specializes in private equity investments, strategic investments, M&A and anti-monopoly related advice.
Terry O'Malley, Global Co-CEO of DLA Piper and Chair of the Asia Committee said: "Gloria is a well-regarded private equity lawyer in Hong Kong, and her addition to the team further strengthens our Corporate practice in Asia. Gloria's expertise complements well our existing fund formation practice, and she will work closely with Luke Gannon, Head of Funds, as well as other recent lateral hires, Melody He-Chen in Hong Kong and John Viverito, Joe Bauerschmidt and Myles Hankin in Singapore. Gloria and Sue have previously worked together at Paul Weiss and Goodwin Proctor, and make an excellent team. We look forward to welcoming them both to the DLA Piper team in Asia".
Paul Chen, partner and Head of Corporate, Asia, added: "Gloria's appointment is key to the development of our Corporate practice in Asia, and her expertise in private equity work will significantly strengthen our service offering to clients. We have seen an increasing amount of private equity work in Hong Kong and further afield across Asia, and Gloria's addition to the corporate team reflects our recognition of that".
