The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India has circulated the preliminary Draft Rules under the Code of Wages, 2019 (Draft Rules) via letter dated November 01, 2019. The Draft Rules can be accessed here. The Draft Rules have been issued to invite comments, suggestions and inputs from the general public.
The Draft Rules inter alia provide for the manner of calculating minimum rate of wages, number of working hours in a day, weekly day of rest, provision in case of night shifts, manner of fixing floor wages, requirements to exhibit notice in the work premises, procedure for deduction of wages in case of damage or loss of goods by employee, issuance of wage slips to all employees electronically, constitution of central advisory board, payment of dues, claims, etc. If you have any comments/suggestions on the Draft Rules, please share the same with us by November 25, 2019 and we will be happy to collate and submit your suggestions to the Government.
By way of information, please note that while the Code on Wages, 2019 has received the Presidential assent and has been published in the gazette, the same has not yet been brought into effect.
