AZB & Partners is delighted to announce that Nisha Kaur Uberoi, today joined the firm as the Co-Head of the Competition Law Practice. Nisha will be based out of the firm’s Mumbai office.
Nisha has consistently been rated by Chambers & Partners (and other reputed legal publications like, Asialaw Leading Lawyers, Competition & Antitrust Expert Guides, Euromoney B.R.I.C. – Expert as amongst the leading competition lawyers in India. RSG described her as “one of the most excellent Competition lawyers in India” for her work in competition law. Chambers described her as a "very dynamic" lawyer and that "her ability to advise clearly as to how the CCI will interpret and respond to proposals is one of her key strengths". Nisha was named as ALB Asia’s 40 under 40 in 2015.
Nisha was the Head of the Competition Practice at Cyril Amarchand, having joined Amarchand Mangaldas after graduating from the National Law School of India University in 2002 and did her LL.M. from the National University of Singapore in 2005.
Nisha comes to AZB & Partners with significant experience, having obtained a very significant number of merger control clearances in India (over 175 of the 340 odd merger notifications). Her significant merger control clearances include the Etihad/Jet transaction, the Kotak Mahindra / ING USD 2.4 billion merger and UntraTech/Jaypee cement assets in Gujarat and MP. She has advised on Phase II investigations in India, including Sun Pharmaceuticals/Ranbaxy USD 4 billion merger and Lafarge/Holcim Euro 41 billion merger, which included divestitures. Currently, Nisha is advising LafargeHolcim in relation to the sale of the entire shareholding of Lafarge India Limited. Nisha also represents clients in cartel matters and in abuse of dominance proceedings and appears at the CCI and COMPAT regularly.
