Mayer Brown JSM has appointed Terence Tung as the firm’s new Senior Partner effective 1 June 2016. He takes over from Elaine Lo who is stepping down after having served as Senior Partner since 2007. Ms. Lo will remain with the firm as a partner and as the Head of Mayer Brown’s China practice.

Mr. Tung joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 1982. He was promoted to the partnership in 1989. His practice focuses primarily on litigation and dispute resolution. Benchmark Litigation said “Terence Tung has made a name for himself for his work with regulatory and compliance issues as well as liquidation procedures.” One of the landmark cases Mr. Tung led was the liquidation of the Guangdong International Trust and Investment Corporation (GITIC), one of the first and largest bankruptcy of a financial institution in China.
Mr. Tung moved to Beijing in 2002 to become the managing partner of the firm’s office there. During his tenure, the number of lawyers in the Beijing office more than doubled. In 2015, the firm was ranked Band 1 in China by Chambers and Partners in the areas of Aviation, Employment & Benefits, Insurance & Reinsurance, Real Estate, Restructuring, Bankruptcy & Insolvency, and Shipping.
Mr. Tung is also a member of the firm’s Pro Bono committee. He was awarded the silver award by the Law Society of Hong Kong Pro Bono and Community Work Recognition Programme in 2015.

Following his new appointment, Mr. Tung will be based in Hong Kong.
