Morrison & Foerster was recognized as Technology, Media & Telecom M&A Legal Adviser of the Year by the 2021 Mergermarket Japan M&A Awards, announced on October 29, 2021. This marks the third consecutive year that MoFo has been awarded top honors in this category.
The Japan M&A Awards recognize financial and legal advisory excellence in Japan-related deals and are based on analysis of Mergermarket’s league table data, with the top firms by deal volume and value being invited to submit written submissions. To select the winners, Mergermarket’s panel of expert independent judges—including seven industry experts and three professionals from Acuris—analyzed the data and reviewed the written support provided by nominated firms.
According to the description of the selection process on Mergermarket’s website, the judges were “looking for the story behind the data, such as the value-adding nature of the advisory work [that the firm] provided to clients, examples of innovative or creative solutions to complex situations and how [the firm] helped get the deal across the line.”
Here are some of the notable M&A deals that we worked on over the past 12 months:
MoFo Advises SoftBank in $40 Billion Sale of Arm to NVIDIA
MoFo Represents Ping An Group in its Capital and Strategic Alliance with Shionogi
MoFo Advises SoftBank in Sale of Boston Dynamics to Hyundai

Morrison & Foerster’s Tokyo office has the largest M&A practice of any global firm in Japan, with over 50 attorneys who are principally engaged in cross-border M&A.
Morrison & Foerster also has more top-ranked Chambers and Partners practices and attorneys than any other international firm in Japan. We are the only firm ranked Tier/Band 1 in Japan International M&A by each of Chambers Global, Chambers Asia-Pacific, The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, and IFLR1000. Most recently, we were named the Japan International Law Advisers of the Year at the Chambers Asia-Pacific 2021 Awards.
