The Central Committee on Prices of Goods and Services under the Department of Internal Trade is expected to issue shortly a notification requiring private hospitals to inform the Department of Internal Trade of the purchase and selling prices of medicines. Initially, the requirement is applicable to those medicines which are on the list of Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients (UCEP) scheme. Further list of medicines will be deliberated at a later stage.
Under the proposed notification, private hospitals are also required to display the prices of these medicines on their websites and at the hospitals to enable consumers to have knowledge of the prices prior to purchase.
Full details of the notification are not yet available and we will keep you informed of further developments.
