DivinaLaw Senior Partner Jay Layug joined the push for floating solar and moderated the forum entitled “The Future of Floating PV Technology in Asia” hosted by The Norwegian Embassy in Manila and The Norwegian Solar Energy Cluster at the Asia Clean Energy Forum held at the ADB Headquarters last June 3, 2024.
With experts on floating PV from ADB, DNV, Fred Olsen, SN Aboitiz Power Group, Solar Duck and Norfund, the session focused on the emerging field of floating solar technology and its advances. The forum also went deep dive into the technological advancements driving the adoption of floating solar systems, exploring their adaptability to various environmental conditions from inland water bodies to offshore installations.
Former Energy Undersecretary and Chairman of National Renewable Energy Board Jay Layug stressed the importance of the Philippine government to explore emerging technology like floating solar given the increasing value of land for utility scale solar projects that ultimately impacts cost of electricity. “The Philippines is surrounded by vast ocean and seascapes that can be tapped for solar energy and that time has come”, added Layug.
