GC Spotlight: Natalia Ozeranskaya Discusses How ALSPs Are Becoming Essential For Modern Legal Departments.

1. Hi Natalia, can you tell us a little about your role and journey into law?       What excites you outside of work?

As the Global Head of Legal at Paysend Group, I lead a dynamic and diverse team that is responsible for managing complex regulatory, contractual, and strategic legal matters that drive our global expansion. My role involves providing legal guidance across multiple jurisdictions, delivering tailored legal solutions for business growth, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance. I enjoy facing new challenges and fostering collaboration between Paysend teams and key stakeholders to support sustainable business growth. Recently, Paysend reached a major milestone of 10 million customers, a testament to our collective efforts.

Outside of work, I find inspiration in traveling, which broadens my perspective, exposes me to new cultures, and fuels fresh ideas. My travel wish list includes destinations like the USA, Australia, and Singapore, which I’m eager to explore in the future.

2. As a GC, what are some of the challenges that keep you up at night? How are you addressing them?

In the rapidly evolving payments sector, key challenges include balancing innovation with regulatory compliance, managing cross-border legal complexities, and mitigating emerging risks. Key priorities are:

  1. Balancing Legal Risk and Business Growth.
  1. Keeping Pace with Regulatory Change.
  1. Customer- Focused Approach.
  1. Team Development and Life-Long Learning.

3. What do you think about the use of LegalTech, data analytics and process optimisation to improve your legal department’s value?

At Paysend, we view the integration of LegalTech and process optimisation as essential to enhancing the efficiency and strategic impact of our Global Legal Team.

By implementing advanced LegalTech tools, we automate routine tasks such as contract management (we are in process to implement a new more advanced solution here), enabling our legal team to focus on more complex, value-driven activities. This not only boosts productivity but also minimises the risk of error. We are actively exploring LegalTech solutions to better navigate regulatory complexities across the globe. Another key focus is leveraging AI-powered LegalTech tools in a responsible and effective manner. By streamlining and simplifying legal processes, we aim to support business growth and enable faster, more informed decision-making.

Optimising Processes is a key OKR for 2025. Continuous process optimisation is at the core of group operations including legal ones. We regularly evaluate and refine workflows to eliminate inefficiencies, enhance collaboration, and ensure swift, effective responses. This agility is essential in the fast-paced and dynamic fintech environment.

4. Where do you see NewLaw/ALSPs fitting in the matrix of your legal       department?

In the evolving landscape of legal services, NewLaw firms and Alternative Legal Service Providers (ALSPs) are becoming essential partners for modern legal departments, particularly in the fintech sector. Their innovative approaches and specialised services offer significant value in key areas:

  1. Streamlining Legal Processes with Advanced Technologies.
  1. Accessed to Specailised Expertise.
  1. Scalability and Flexibility.
  1. Strategic Collaboration for Innovation and Compliance.

5. Your favourite tune? And why?

It really depends on the mood, but a few songs that are close to my heart are:

Ludovico Einaudi’s Compositions: Einaudi’s music is pure magic – an emotional journey of calm, reflection, and inspiration. I’ve had the privilege of attending his live concerts twice, once in Genoa, Italy and again in London. His compositions help me unwind, regain focus, and often spark creativity. Whether it’s “Nuvole Bianche” or “Divenire,” his music brings a sense of balance, making it my go-to during moments of thinking.

“Rolling in the Deep” by Adele. This song is a powerhouse of emotion and resilience. Its message about turning adversity into strength is something I find incredibly motivating. Adele’s voice is a reminder to push through, adapt, and come out stronger.

“My Way” by Frank Sinatra. Sinatra’s iconic anthem is a reminder to stay true to yourself, even in the face of challenges. It’s the perfect tune to reflect on achievements and lessons learned along the way.
