Today (Wednesday, 23 October 2019), President Joko Widodo of cially announced the members of his new “Indonesia Maju/Onwards Indonesia” Cabinet that will work with him in the second term of his presidency. Along with the announcement of the new members, in the new Cabinet some of the titles have changed, such as ‘The Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Resources’ which has been changed to ‘The Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment’ and ‘The Minister of Tourism’ which has been changed to ‘The Minister of Tourism and the Creative Economy’.
Several ministers who served during President Joko Widodo’s rst term such as Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Yasonna Laoly also made a comeback along with many new faces. The new faces include prominent youth and professional gures who are pioneers and leading individuals in their respective elds. The announcement of such names as Nadiem Makarim, Erick Thohir and Wishnutama Kusubandio as new Cabinet members has been received positively by the general public.

Special congratulations to Mr. Nadiem Makarim (founder and former CEO of the ride-hailing startup, Gojek) who is the son of our law rm’s founder, Dr. Nono Anwar Makarim, S.H., L.LM., for his appointment as the Minister of Education and Culture.
In his announcement speech, the President stressed the prohibition against corruption and instructed the appointed ministries to develop a corruption prevention system in each respective institution. The president also warned the ministers not to be trapped in monotonous routines and to work according to the President and the Vice President’s vision and mission, which are the development of human resources and infrastructure, the simpli cation of regulations (the eradication of regulatory hinderances), the simpli cation of bureaucracy and economic transformation.
A big hope is placed on the new Cabinet that it will bring about innovative and exciting changes to the country’s economy and government.
