India is the second largest importer of arms and armaments. The majority of the country’s military requirements are met by imports. During the period from 2017 to 2023, total 264 capital acquisition contracts have been signed for procurement of defence equipment, out of which, 88 contracts (36.26% of total contract value) have been signed with vendors from countries including USA, Russia, France, Israel, and Spain.
