A special address by Minister Edwin Tong SC,Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Second Minister for Law, Singapore, will deliver the opening addressat the International Chamber of Commerce’s International Court of Arbitration Asia Pacific Conference on 28 June 2024.
This flagship event is the region’s premier gathering for professionals in the field of international arbitration, offering unparalleled opportunities for networking, learning, and professional development. This is the 9th ICC Asia Pacific Conference on International Arbitration, and will take place at hotel Sofitel Singapore City Centre. Over 200 top arbitrators, mediators, in-house counsel, lawyers, and business executives from 15 countries across the Asia Pacific region will be at the conference to connect, learn and share best practice.
The theme of this year’s event is “Looking ahead: shaping the international arbitration ecosystem”. In his address, Minister Edwin Tong SC will set the tone for the day of insightful discussions and exchanges, talking through Asia-Pacific’s economic position and outlook, and the importance of effective dispute resolution to facilitate international cross-border trade, open up opportunities for businesses and continued economic growth in the region.
Another conference highlight includes the unveiling of a key collaborative report byICC-Jus Connect-McCann, the ‘The Truth About Cross-Cultural B2B Relationships’. This report is the result of an extensive research project into attitudes on commercial contracts and disputes around the world. 1,700 individuals across nine countries were interviewed in depth (and 20,000 desk research data points included). The research found interesting cultural differences around the world as to how businesses approach contracts and manage conflicts arising out of them. The conference session on the report is aimed to empower attendees to adapt to evolving trends and shape the future of international arbitration.
