International law firm Bird & Bird has continued to grow its intellectual property (IP) practice with the arrival of partner Mario Subramaniam.
Mario is an IP and transactions specialist with extensive experience in the life sciences sector. He advises global life science clients on strategic IP licensing, collaboration and partnering transactions. He also supports those clients with M&A, joint ventures, asset acquisitions and disposals and high value manufacturing, supply and outsourcing arrangements.
Prior to qualifying as a solicitor in Australia and then in England and Wales, Mario worked as a research scientist in the fields of tumour immunology and molecular biology.
Mario’s arrival is part of the firm’s strategic efforts to grow the Life Sciences team and comes soon after the arrival of partner Nicole Jadeja, a life sciences patent litigator. As a life sciences and healthcare lawyer, Nicole specialises in global patent litigation and in providing strategic IP advice, working at the interface between IP, regulatory and commercial law.
Also joining the wider IP team is partner Ann Henry in the firm’s Dublin office. Ann, regarded as one of the leading IP and data litigators in Ireland, has significant experience in representing international companies in pan-European litigation, particularly in the areas of patent litigation and data privacy disputes.
Mark Hilton, partner and co-head of Bird & Bird’s International Life Sciences & Healthcare group said: “Mario brings a wealth of experience with him and we’re looking forward to having him as part of our growing Life Sciences team. His work is an excellent fit in terms of the strategy in our Life Sciences group as well as the IP and Corporate practices. I’ve no doubt he will be a valuable addition to the firm.”
Robert Williams, partner and co-head of Bird & Bird’s Intellectual Property group, London, commented: “Mario has an excellent track record in transactional IP work with biotech, medical device and health-tech companies which makes him a perfect fit for our team. He has great synergy with a number of our practices and will help us to continue to grow what is an already strong practice.”
Mario Subramaniam added: “I’m excited to join Bird & Bird and work alongside some of the best lawyers in life sciences and IP. Alongside them, I believe I can help my clients to tackle their most pressing challenges and realise their strategic objectives.”
